![]() The biggest reason I like is that the "game" aspect of the show so far hasn't fallen into the Fantasy tropes and has been sticking to a more Cyberpunk (appropriate for one of the founding father's of the genre) and military. The novel 'The Peripheral' imagines two futures: One in small town America, where the illegal drug trade rules, and one even more distant, in London, after apocalyptic conditions wiped out most. That's all I'll say about the plot and I'm pretty excited to get a copy of the book when I can. Her first game involving espionage in a fantastical/futuristic version of London. When her brother is offered to playtest a special peripheral headset that allows for full sensory immersion, she has to pretend to be him while playtesting it. (Non-Spoiler Synopsis) The protagonist is Flynne Fisher who helps her veteran brother make money online by helping rich people beat VR games. ![]() I'm surprised its not being talked about here because the initial premise is really akin to what I like in LitRPGs. (I'M NOT FINISHED YET PLEASE NO SPOILERS). I'm not reading the Peripheral, but caught the series on Amazon Prime. I fell off after a while because I didn't like his writing style of having a strong 1st book and then having sequels with multiple points of view. ![]() ![]() ![]() I read Neuromancer, Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive, Burning Chrome, and Pattern Recognition. So I was a big William Gibson fan back in the 2000's. ![]()
